Tough Equipment from The North Face

Wilderness chic is sort of a strange moniker to attach to the American company The North Face. Ubiquitous in both suburbia and the big city, The North Face backpacks are ideally suited to the shape of school books and other educational paraphernalia. In some models, the cut of fabric is squared off to specifically fit books and laptops. So where did the company get its image?

Originally, The North Face made ski and camping equipment out of a small shop in San Francisco, later purchased by VF Corporation. Makers of outdoor equipment like jackets, shoes and The North Face Vault backpacks, the company is named for, supposedly, the hardest side of the mountain to climb–the north side. Today, the company and its sibling Jansport are located in Alameda, California, coincidentally the same county as the destructive force known as Mythbusters. With people setting off dynamite in the countryside, The North Face knows tough equipment.

When purchasing backpacks from The North Face and Jansport bookbags, be wary. Since the 90s, the companies have been the target of counterfeiters riding on the wave of wilderness chic. Jansport, Backpack Innovator

JanSport backpacks have been around for a long time, and are among the most iconic pieces of American outdoor gear. North Face: Kid Friendly Quality

In the past 10 years the North Face has gone from being a relatively obscure outdoor wear manufacturer to a staple of urban and rural life everywhere. North Face makes great products be they for going to school, battling the frozen winter city streets or trekking in the wilderness. In addition to their mega-down jackets and coats, North Face also offers useful, every day items that are perfect for kids rough-and-tumble lifestyle and ever changing tastes. Keeping School Uniforms Clean

Boys and girls school uniforms can be a laundry nightmare. Not only are there piles of pants, cardigans, blazers, ties, and shirts to clean. But no matter how spiffy the kids look for their schoolday, the clothes are still being worn by children, and children are messy! Yes, the kids look adorable in their uniforms, but its a lot of work to keep them so well dressed! If you dread the weekly addition to the laundry pile, then maybe its time to establish a routine for keeping your kids’ school uniforms clean.

  • Make them help: Or at least try to. The girls and boys might not help keep their uniforms clean, but you can at least assign them the task of bringing their things to the laundry room, or make them help with sorting. Even if you can just get a little work out of them, it’ll make the process that much easier.
  • Pre wash: It might take an extra few minutes, but if you have a slop sink or a large basin, pre-washing any stains or caked on messes will make it that much easier on your machine. It will also prevent the stain from coming off on other clothes that go in the same load. This method works well on harsh stains like mud and blood.
  • Wash Hard: Cotton and blends are durable and khakis and whites will keep their colors. Wash them on soiled-hot, this will blast the stains out, and the garments can take it. Beaded items and blue jeans on the other hand will need extra special attention and may nee to be washed on delicate or cold.

What to Look for in a Kid’s Backpack

Kids can be endlessly picky.  They hate vegetables, won’t stop watching TV and do not want to be seen with their parents after the age of ten. Fair enough, but when you have to buy these little monsters a new everything every 12 months, the pickiness quickly gets to wear on you. If it sags down below their waist and is full of 30 pounds of books, the pack likely won’t be the most comfortable piece on the market. Consider your child’s health and posture!

This has been a particularly rainy spring on the east coast of  the country.
