So why are they popular the world over?

Americans love to splurge on French Toast uniforms, especially in the rapidly reproducing charter school culture. Japan is famous for a strict code of uniforms based on European sailor garb. Britishers have different ones for every part of the United Kingdom from Scotland to Wales, down to individual schools! The school uniform is ubiquitous, even when no European influence can be detected; Brazil garbs their kids in bright green and yellow, while China’s favorite is the comfy track suit.

Perhaps the draw is in the preparatory appeal: parents want their kids to grow up and get jobs where everyone dresses the same, and in a certain professionalism. Many countries definitely express a unique national character–French schools reputedly reject the idea out of hand, citing their liberal culture. Finding the perfect girls school skirt or boys school pants is also a valuable bonding experience, a unique occasion where the children can experience firsthand all the thought and money that goes into their parents’ care. Whatever the reason we keep the tradition, it is apparent school uniforms are here to stay.

Wilderness chic is sort of a strange moniker to attach to the American company The North Face. Ubiquitous in both suburbia and the big city, The North Face backpacks are ideally suited to the shape of school books and other educational paraphernalia. In some models, the cut of fabric is squared off to specifically fit books and laptops. So where did the company get its image?

Originally, The North Face made ski and camping equipment out of a small shop in San Francisco, later purchased by VF Corporation. Makers of outdoor equipment like jackets, shoes and The North Face Vault backpacks, the company is named for, supposedly, the hardest side of the mountain to climb–the north side. Today, the company and its sibling Jansport are located in Alameda, California, coincidentally the same county as the destructive force known as Mythbusters. With people setting off dynamite in the countryside, The North Face knows tough equipment.

When purchasing backpacks from The North Face and Jansport bookbags, be wary. Since the 90s, the companies have been the target of counterfeiters riding on the wave of wilderness chic. The North Face makes quality products at a relatively high price point, but their backpacks feature nigh-indestructible materials, reflective safety badges, and specialized functions.

Buying school uniforms should be a straightforward process. Unfortunately, if you are new to buying them, it can be a confusing, and potentially very expensive, prospect. Buying all of your child’s uniform clothing at retail from the mall or a department store is a good way to waste money. Buying from a uniform supplier will ensure your child has quality clothes that look good while not breaking the bank. Here are some tips on how to get the most out of school uniforms:

Be choosey about the brand names you pick. There are plenty of brand names, such as the ones sold here at S&D, that are high quality without the added cost of designer labels.

Review the different types of garments. Most kids school uniform companies, like French Toast, offer many different styles of pants and shirts. Be sure to get something that matches your school’s recommendations but also meshes with what your child likes to wear. Do not be afraid to mix and match styles and brands.

Take advantage of deals. If you happen to see girls’ skirts on sale, buy more than you need. You never know when she may rip the skirt by accident and you need a replacement, fast. Having extra uniform pieces is never a bad idea.

We stock a full range of kid-related products. Our stock ranges widely, from designer and name brand jackets and backpacks to economy kids school uniforms, hypoallergenic mattresses and multipurpose strollers. Strollers are one of the products we have featured the least on our blog, and it is time to showcase our extensive stroller selection.

Travel systems are by far some of the most practical and popular strollers available, and we offer several different varieties. A travel system will consist of a car seat and matching stroller. The stroller can be a larger, more durable bassinet style or it can be a lightweight folding stroller. Usually a travel system will have a convenient feature that allows you to attach a car seat directly into a stroller frame, meaning you do not need to move the child around, allowing for a more seamless car experience.

Travel stroller systems have two main features to look for. The first is the type of built-in car seat it comes with. Is the seat meant to face the driver or face the rear of the car? Make sure the stroller you buy offers a seating style that you prefer. The second is weight and folding style. If you have a small car or carry a lot of other stuff around, having a stroller that folds flat is important–not all models do.

JanSport backpacks have been around for a long time, and are among the most iconic pieces of American outdoor gear. The panel loading day pack, which is still sold, (varieties of it are available on sndkids) is one of JanSport’s enduring innovations. In fact, before JanSport came along the only style of backpack that was readily available was a top loading dray string style that had existed for ages.

The 70′s were JanSport’s period of greatest innovation as they pioneered the sort of technical backpacks that have become the norm for outdoor expeditions the world over. The company was borne out of a lightweight, tubular aluminum trekking backpack and flourished from there. They were among the first manufacturers to use ballistic nylon in their manufacturing and the modern, sporty shapes and designs they created have come to represent what a backpack is, and are a far cry from the paramilitary backpacks of the past.

One of the best features of JanSport backpacks, one that they share with other premier book-bag makers is that JanSport offers a full lifetime warranty. That means that no matter what, JanSport will replace or repair a backpack if it fails in any way. That’s a pretty good deal, especially considering that most of JanSport’s bags retail for less than $50.

Just because it is getting colder outside does not mean recess is going anywhere. Kids will still be running around outside, getting into all types of mess and wildness. Except they will be doing it in weather that will leave them muddy and cold, that is unless they have the right clothing. While your little boy probably does not need the heaviest parka available, any kid that walks to school, plays outside and does so all year round needs a good jacket. We have a variety of North Face and Polo Ralph Lauren jackets that can grow with your kid, and will keep them warm through the chilly fall rains, icy winter and unpredictable early spring.

Hardshell jackets are great for places with variable weather and are good at taking a beating. The North Face Resolve jacket is a perfect hardshell for an active kid. It is waterproof, breathable and resists stains. A slightly loose fit allows layering under the jacket, making it a perfect choice for cool weather.

In colder climates, a simple shell is not going to do, but a dedicated parka can sometimes seem like a bit of overkill. A down puffer jacket might be just the solution. the North Face Nuptse offers a real down liner with a water resistant outer. It will keep your little one warm without being too big and bulky to actually wear.

There are many occasions that call for a new mattress. If you’re having terrible sleep or have a back or neck injury or just think the dust mites living in your’s are making you sick, it could be time to switch things up. A hypoallergenic mattress can be just the thing for people that suffer from asthma or COPD. Allergies and asthma are notoriously fickle, that’s why we don’t have any known cures for either, only treatments. But for some people simply not being in close proximity to the trigger for their problems is enough to resolve the situation.

The reason a hypoallergenic mattress is easier on the lungs of asthmatics and people with sensitive allergies, is because most mattresses contain substantial or at least trace ammounts of wool and latex. While these are fine materials from which to build matresses, they are both known and common allergens. Naturepedic mattresses are the leading brand of hypoallergenic sleep goods, and are completely guaranteed not to contain either of these materials.

Naturepedic mattresses are not just for the wheezing masses. Their high tensile steel, coil spring construction combined with organic cotton covers and pesticides make for a comfortable sleep whatever model you choose.

If the vault is based around a cavernous main compartment, the Jester is more sensibly split between one large compartment and a smaller on with an internal organizer. Perfect for pens and school supplies. The jester also has a convenient bungee strap on theoutside for stuffing or hanging clothes and shoes.

Boys and girls school uniforms can be a laundry nightmare. Not only are there piles of pants, cardigans, blazers, ties, and shirts to clean. But no matter how spiffy the kids look for their schoolday, the clothes are still being worn by children, and children are messy! Yes, the kids look adorable in their uniforms, but its a lot of work to keep them so well dressed! If you dread the weekly addition to the laundry pile, then maybe its time to establish a routine for keeping your kids’ school uniforms clean.

Make them help: Or at least try to. The girls and boys might not help keep their uniforms clean, but you can at least assign them the task of bringing their things to the laundry room, or make them help with sorting. Even if you can just get a little work out of them, it’ll make the process that much easier.

Pre wash: It might take an extra few minutes, but if you have a slop sink or a large basin, pre-washing any stains or caked on messes will make it that much easier on your machine. It will also prevent the stain from coming off on other clothes that go in the same load. This method works well on harsh stains like mud and blood.

Wash Hard: Cotton and blends are durable and khakis and whites will keep their colors. Wash them on soiled-hot, this will blast the stains out, and the garments can take it. Beaded items and blue jeans on the other hand will need extra special attention and may nee to be washed on delicate or cold.

Kids never have to worry about what to wear each morning and parents save on the cost of an extensive wardrobe for the entire year. But children’s uniforms are still an investment. You want quality uniforms to last them the entire year.

This expense is not a particularly great one but can still be a strain on families trying to put uniforms on multiple kids, or who are otherwise on a tight budget. Along with the normal costs of children’s clothes, a uniform can be a budget squeezer. French Toast brand school uniforms can alleviate these costs.

French Toast offers a full line of school uniforms, from girls’ pants and tights to boys’ slacks, shirts and cardigans. The prices of French Toast uniforms are very affordable. If you bought your child’s uniform piece by piece at a name brand clothing store, you would spend hundreds of dollars. At S&D Kids, French Toast is a brand we can sell for far less.

Even if you decide to splurge and buy a different outfit for each day of the week, the entire ensemble would easily cost less than $200 when you purchase French Toast uniforms from S&D Kids.
