As a child, I suffered from severe allergies. I would be up in the middle of the night with allergy attacks so bad that I had to sleep sitting up in a recliner just so I could breathe and keep a cool washcloth on my eyes to alleviate the pain and itching that accompanied these attacks.

Often, my mother would sit up with me while I had these terrible bouts of allergies. Looking back on it now, I see how horrible it must have been for her to watch her child in such pain and suffering and not be able to do a thing about it. I’m sure it’s the same for all parents when their kids are sick or suffering from allergies in a similar way.

That’s why nowadays they’re beginning to make organic crib mattresses and other organic mattresses for kids. The materials in these mattresses are mostly hypoallergenic and have dust mite repelling qualities. Less dust mites means less allergy symptoms! They’re chemical free and contain no synthetic polyurethane, which is a material well-known for being an allergy trigger.

So if you’re up in the night with a child suffering with severe allergies, consider switching to an organic twin mattress to help alleviate some of the symptoms.

Winter hasn’t really shown itself here on the eastern seaboard thus far this winter. However, it’s starting to get bitingly cold finally on the day after New Year’s. Ironically, this is the same day that a lot of people are heading back to work and/or school. If you’re sending your child off today, you might have noticed the drastic temperature drop. Kids wearing kids school uniforms are likely shivering waiting for the bus stop. Don’t worry though, here are some tips on how to keep your kids toasty warm during the winter months.

First, make sure your boys school pants are of a heavy material. If this means that they have summer pants and winter pants, so be it. It’s worth it to keep them comfortable. Heavy materials like wool work well but make sure your child can handle it as some sensitive skin finds wool very uncomfortable and itchy. Secondly, make sure your girls school uniforms include a nice heavy pair of leggings. This will ensure that tiny little legs stay warm even on the coldest day.

If you’re doing both of these things and your child is still a little chilly, try looking for a school approved sweater or sweatshirt to bundle up on those cold winter days!

When it comes to buying boys school pants, sometimes you get scared that you’ll buy pants too long or too short. You don’t know which way to go about it and sometimes, you don’t even have a choice. The waist size that works right for your kid may automatically come with a super long or short pant leg. So, you’ll probably have to get the pants hemmed.

When bringing boys school pants for hemming, the best sort of hem to get is having some fabric pinned up, instead of just cut off. That way as your child grows in height, you can just bring down the hem instead of  buying new pants. And that pair that was once too long, now fits great.

You should also be careful not to alter the pants too much that they then don’t adhere to dress guidelines. Though your son may not love the fit overall, it may be that way for a reason, and too much alteration could get him in trouble when his uniform doesn’t look the same as that of other students.

Be careful when hemming, whether yourself or hiring a professional, and your son will look great in his school pants for the entire school year.

It’s almost winter break for many schools (if not already!) and that means time for vacation and relaxing for the kids. With the holidays and the new year, there’s a lot of fun to be had as well as a lot to do. This is a great time of year to look into replacing kids school uniforms with pieces they need the most. This downtime can let you have time to order a brand new pair of pants or skirt for your kid if they really need it.

Sometimes things wear out quickly in the first few months, or stains happen that can’t  be removed, or they just hit a growth spurt and now their pants are coming up to their shins. Now is the time to order so you have your new piece by the time school comes back into session, instead of your child having less to wear and having to do more laundry, more often to keep up with how fast they wear what is left.

Take care of stocking up on new kids school uniforms and items now and you’ll feel better when school is back in session. You won’t have to worry about it until at least the summer.

Buying for a newborn baby is hard. Not because it is hard to pick something out, but that it is hard to pick something that is original. Everyone is going to get him or her a teething ring, a rattle, a teddy bear or new footie pajamas. You want to get something more helpful, different, and that will be truly appreciated. Buying an organic crib mattress will be the most unique, thoughtful, and probably the best gift that the proud parents will get from anyone.

Even though they’ll have a crib set up with a mattress already, chances are they just have one that came with the crib. They, more than likely, didn’t look into buying an organic crib mattress to start out. But they will be thrilled to know you care so much about their child’s health and comfort. It’s the best choice you can make for an infant. Think of it this way, would you buy it for your own child? Then why not give it as a gift to another?

You’ll definitely stand out among all the other gift givers this holiday season, so don’t hesitate in getting one of the most essential gifts for a newborn.

Even though it’s winter, my mind is in sunny vacation mode. I have one coming up next year and I’m already planning in order to get me through the colder days. I’m the kind of person who doesn’t like to pack too much and absolutely refuses to check in large luggage at the airport. One reason is, I don’t want to have to lug that thing back and forth. And another reason is, I like to have everything on me. I’m not the biggest fan of others handling my stuff.

I often have my rolling carry on luggage piece, but on top of that, I bring a Northface Jester backpack. See, I can put the rolling luggage in the overhead compartment and I’m allowed to hold the backpack in my lap during the trip. It works as extra storage  for all the smaller things, like toiletries, my wallet, a smaller bag that I’ll carry around with me sight seeing, and anything else I can stuff in there.

I wouldn’t be able to go anywhere without my Northface Jester backpack. It’s a seriously great investment for those who love to travel, but travel as light and easily as they possibly can!

When it’s finally time for the kids to get their own “big kid bed” it might be a little difficult to say goodbye to that safe crib that they’ve been sleeping in since they came home. It’s a scary new world for kids and parents alike, although most kids I know are excited for their new bed. Why don’t you get some peace of mind with an organic twin mattress?

There are many benefits to getting an organic mattress. The first of which is peace of mind knowing that no potentially harmful chemicals are entering your child’s sleeping environment. The cotton that covers these mattresses is entirely organic with no pesticides or other harsh chemicals to interfere with sleeping babes.

If this is their first “big kid bed”, you might want to consider purchasing a waterproof mattress since nighttime accidents are still likely to occur. You don’t have to sacrifice the organic aspect to get a waterproof mattress. Naturepedic 2 in 1 Organic Twin Mattresses are waterproof already! No unsavory covers or embarrassing crinkling here. Just pure, safe cotton.

Organic seems to be the way toward a sustainable future. It doesn’t only have to stop at organic produce we buy at the grocery store. It can extend into other parts of our home as well, including the mattress you buy for your child.

Your kids have a lot going on. If it’s not baseball lessons or lacrosse it’s ballet or gymnastics. Maybe they take a pottery class at the YMCA or an art class in the park on Saturdays. Not to mention they have schoolwork to do as well! It’s an art form for kids to juggle all of their programs, they shouldn’t have to literally juggle all of their stuff as well!

That’s where getting a great backpack comes in. You want something that will be easy to carry, won’t harm their bodies by making them strain, and of course something stylish! The north face jester backpack fits the bill perfectly.

This backpack has space for all of the art projects, library books, ballet shoes, and lacrosse balls your child needs to carry around on a daily basis. It even has crisscrossed bungee cords that could hold a lacrosse stick or that huge baton that your little sugar plum fairy needs for her recital.

It’s also durable. They have been used by mountain climbers as day packs. Not to mention the Jester backpack is completely water proof! Their rigid and padded backs give support to growing bodies and older bodies alike and a reflective logo makes sure that your child will be seen at night.

The north face jester backpack is the perfect fit for any school kid with a lot of equipment to carry around or just the fashion savvy kid who wants one of the coolest looking backpacks on the market.

The cold weather is really setting in and sometimes when the kids have to wear uniforms to school, it’s can get pretty chilly, especially for the girls. Girls school skirts can sometimes be not enough on their own. But there are ways to keep their legs warm when traveling to and from school.

First, combining knee highs over tights is a great way to layer. Warmer, cable knit knee highs over a thick pair of tights will keep the lower legs that are usually the most exposed, rather toasty. You can also consider fully leg warmers. Find out with the school if these are ok to wear for the day or if she’ll need to remove them before heading to class.

Another option that many of my friends and I did in high school was changing from pants to skirts. We would wear a pair of pants on the way to school and then change into our skirts in the bathroom before our first classes of the day.

Wool girls school skirts may also be an option, providing a bit more warmth than the lighter cotton counterparts they would wear in the spring and early summer.

Cleaning the house is never a fun experience but it has to be done. You don’t want to live in an unhealthy living environment yourself and you certainly don’t want to have one for your baby. You’ll want to keep the nursery as clean as possible, after all your child’s health means more than your own to you at times. That’s what makes organic crib mattresses so great. They don’t have any of those harmful chemicals that are used to make other mattresses and they are very easy to wipe down and clean! You don’t want dust mites and other harmful materials in the crib that your baby sleeps in every night.

Naturepedic makes mattresses for babies that have a great reputation. You know they are certified organic because it’s a company that has  been well trusted for years. Their job is to provide a safe sleeping environment for your child and an easy to clean mattress, no matter what may happen to it. And that’s what you need, something to make your job just a little bit easier. Especially since raising a child can be so hectic and difficult as it is!
